Nikki Patin has appeared on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, WGN, WCIU, WBEZ and New Zealand's TV3 and Radio New Zealand. She was voted one of 30 under 30 most influential LGBTQ people in Chicago by Windy City Times and took the gold medal in the 2006 Gay Games International LGBT poetry slam. She is the founder and Executive Director of Surviving the Mic (www.survivingthemic.org), an organization dedicated to creating safe and affirming artistic spaces for survivors of trauma. Nikki Patin received her MFA in Creative Non-Fiction/Poetry at Stonecoast MFA Program at the University of Southern Maine. Her work can be found at www.nikkipatin.com.

Neeli Cherkovski is a longtime contributor to the West Coast literary scene. Emerging from the Los Angeles underground of the Sixties, Cherkovski is an applauded poet, critic and literary biographer. He has written ten books of poetry, including FROM THE CANYON OUTWARD, the award-winning LEANING AGAINST TIME, ELEGY FOR BOB KAUFMAN, and Animal; two acclaimed biographies, Bukowski: A Life and Ferlinghetti: A Biography; his book Whitman's Wild Children (a collection of critical memoirs) has become an underground classic. In the late 1960s Cherkovski co-edited the poetry anthology Laugh Literary and Man the Humping Guns with Charles Bukowski. Since 1975, Neeli has lived and worked in San Francisco. For ten years he was Writer-in-Residence at New College of California, where he taught literature and philosophy.
Billy Tuggle is a native of Chicago's South Side; writer, verbalist, producer, activist, mentor and parent. He is an organizer for performance poetry institutions In One Ear and Mental Graffiti. He is not only for the stage, as has facilitated short-verse workshops across the US. In addition to 3 collections of his own, his work has been anthologized by Fractal Edge Press, Red Bench Press, Write Bloody Publishing's 'Learn Then Burn' series, the Columbia Poetry Review and captured on video by All Def Poetry and Button Poetry. Billy is the 2015 National Poetry Slam Haiku Champion.
in defense of flint: special poetry insert

Jéanpaul Ferro is a novelist, short fiction author, and poet from Scituate, Rhode Island. A 10-time Pushcart Prize nominee, his work has appeared on National Public Radio, Contemporary American Voices, Columbia Review, Emerson Review, Asia Literary Review, Connecticut Review, Istanbul Review, Arts & Understanding Magazine, Saltsburg Review, and others. Bill Wolak, Fever of the Wildflower's Perfume; Never
Bill Wolak is a poet who lives in New Jersey and teaches Creative Writing at William Paterson University. He has just published his thirteenth collection of poetry entitled Love Opens the Hands: New and Selected Love Poems with Nirala Press. His collages have been published in The Annual, Peculiar Mormyrid, Danse Macabre, Dirty Chai, Hermeneutic Chaos Literary Journal, Lost Coast Review, Yellow Chair Review, Otis Nebula, and Horror Sleaze Trash.
